International Veterinary Students’ Association (IVSA)
Veterinary Students’ Association at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences (IVSA Wrocław) is a student organization and a part of IVSA - International Veterinary Students’ Association which is the largest veterinary students’ organization in the world. Together we’re working towards a better future of veterinary medicine and health of both people and animals. We’re broadening our horizons by meeting different cultures and learning about their approach towards science.
Exchanges
The thing that makes our association stand out the most are exchanges. In the past years students of our faculty visited countries such as Greece, Turkey, Macedonia and Romania. Exchanges allow us to make incredible friendships, get to know foreign universities and gain extra knowledge. During the pandemic we’ve transferred our exchanges into the virtual world - we’re meeting with IVSA members from all over the world via Google Meet.
Education
As an organization focused around veterinary, most of our initiatives are meant to create new and interesting opportunities to learn for our members and other students. Every year we organize series of workshops and conferences:
That’s not all though - every Wednesday we meet up for lectures, focused on clinical topics and showcasing different career paths. We’re also organizing regular Journal Club meetings and posting various educational content on our social media, including our series “Fridays with Internal Medicine”. On top of that, we have a very active group of members who want to pursue equine medicine in the future - they support each other and create a lot of interesting events for themselves.
Welfare
Veterinary medicine is also caring about animal welfare. Our Association has a very active section for animal welfare. Members create projects aimed to raise awareness on related topics. One of the main initiatives is "Month in Welfare" - a monthly series in which each month is centered around a different species, both on our social media platforms and in some of our lectures. Additionally, we’re taking part in the international Animal Welfare Week and organize discussion panels focused on important themes in the veterinary world.
Wellness
The last field of our activity is mental health of the future veterinarians. We’re trying to constantly raise awareness about the current problems and possible solutions. At the end of the academic year 2020/2021 we distributed posters with helplines on our university. We also take part in the international Wellness Week, organize lectures related to mental health and work towards creating a safe space for all our members.
Members
Undoubtedly, the source of all our fantastic initiatives are our members. They are a community of incredibly positive and open people with minds filled with creative ideas! Thanks to them we've started many beautiful traditions, such as sending Christmas cards to senior veterinarians. You can join us at the beginning of the academic year (October). But even if you’re not a member, there are still ways to enjoy many of our events. :)
